Portuguese Steak

Featured by Quinta da Pedra Alta in the International Wine Club.

A classic Portuguese steak recipe that would pair perfectly with your 'Tinto' Red Blend from Portugal.

Yield: 4
Prep Time: 8 Minutes
Cook Time: 20 Minutes

• 4 beef steaks
• 4 ham slices
• 6-7 Tbs. olive oil
• 4 cloves garlic
• 6-7 Tbs. white wine
• 2 bay leaves
• Parsley, to taste
• Salt, to taste
• Pepper, to taste

For the Rice:
• 10 oz. rice
• 3 1/2 Tbs. olive oil
• 1 bay leaf
• 1 clove garlic
• 1/4 oz. butter
• Salt, to taste

Season the steaks with white wine, chopped garlic, bay leaves, pepper and salt.

Heat the olive oil in a skillet. Fry the ham slices on medium-low heat. When they are slightly browned, place them on a plate and set aside. Place the steaks in the skillet with the marinade and fry on both sides on medium-low heat.

For the Rice:
In a pan, place the olive oil and chopped garlic and sauté over low heat for two to three minutes. Add the rice, butter, and a little salt and stir with a wooden spoon, frying rice in the olive oil for 1 minute. Pour water (twice the volume of the rice) in the pan, stir, simmer and cook about 10 minutes.

Place a ham slice on top of each steak, garnish with chopped parsley, drizzle with a little sauce, and serve with the rice.
