It’s another beautiful day in California Wine Country! And listen up, because we’ve got the Gold Medal Wine Club-approved wine tasting tour through the picturesque Sonoma Coast wine region. The Sonoma Coast AVA consists of roughly 25,000 acres of planted vineyards from high ridges to sheltered valleys, and with that much ground to cover, you might be wondering where to start.
The Sonoma Coast is known for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but the Syrah grape has been steadily growing in popularity for this area. However, that’s not to say you should only drink these varietals while you're there! Part of the fun is mixing it up and tasting the unexpected.
We’ve selected 4 outstanding wineries and tasting rooms to visit in the region and have planned out your itinerary. So what are you waiting for...it’s time to pack your bags and escape to Wine Country!
P.S. If you can’t make the trip, scroll down to see how you can still enjoy this fantastic tour from home!
Keller Estate Winery
5875 Lakeville Hwy,
Petaluma, CA 94954
Hours: Visit their website for more information
We have you starting at the outstanding Keller Estate Winery. They have a few different tasting and estate tour options, so please visit the Keller Estate website to find which one best suits your visit.
A number of their spectacular wines have been featured in our monthly wine clubs, including: Gold, Platinum, Pinot Noir and Diamond Wine Clubs! The winery itself was designed by renowned Mexican architects and was completed in 2003. The grounds are spacious and include limestone quarried from the bed of the Yangtze River, a gravity flow state-of the-art winemaking system, various sculptures and statues, and a stunning tasting room where visitors can enjoy an array of paintings and unique works of art.
Patz & Hall Winery
21200 8th Street E
Sonoma, CA 95476
Hours: Open 7 days/week, reservations are required
Second on the list is Patz & Hall Winery, roughly a 20 minute drive from Keller Estate. We have featured their delightful Pinot Noir wines in both our Platinum and Pinot Noir Wine Clubs.
Starting almost thirty years ago in Napa Valley, Patz & Hall is the product of four talented friends, each with a passion for wine and a desire to make the best vineyard-designated wines possible. Donald Patz was the national marketing manager at Flora Springs Winery when he and his wife Heather approached friends James Hall and Anne Moses with the idea of creating their own label - they named it ‘Project X.’
141 E. Napa Street
Sonoma, CA 95476
Hours: Tastings by Appointment, please see their website for booking information
The second to last winery on our Guided Tour is Sojourn Cellars - one of the most reputable boutique wineries in California. We have been lucky to send their fantastic Pinot Noirs, Cabernet Sauvignons and Chardonnays to our Platinum, Pinot Noir, and Diamond Wine Club members! (Click here to learn how you can receive amazing wine too!)
Sojourn Cellars’ celebrated Tasting Salon concept in downtown Sonoma further promotes the winery’s appealing philosophy with a living room-type setting of cozy furniture and a dining room table (no tasting bar). Both Haserot and Bradley join guests for private tasting sessions to share their limited production, highly rated wines. The Tasting Salon is certainly unique in its personal approach to wine tasting, and the customers seem to be enjoying themselves as well.
13651 Arnold Drive
Glen Ellen, CA 95442
Hours: Thursday - Monday, Noon to 5pm
The goal at Talisman Wines is very simple: to create exquisite Pinot Noirs that are true to their roots and accurately reflect their places of origin. And these passionate Pinot producers have certainly have reached their goal! We have featured their 2012 Pinot Noir in our monthly Pinot Noir Wine Club.
The name for their winery comes from a special charm, or talisman, that was given to Scott by his American Indian mother. The talisman was blessed by a medicine man and intended to protect the bearer. One of the elements of the talisman was the medicine wheel, which has become the logo for Talisman Wines. It represents the circle of life and the four directions, reminding us of our place in the universe. The rays around the logo represent the sun, which provides energy for life on earth and ripens the grapes, allowing us to revel in the pleasures of life including fine wine.
While only 4 wineries on this tasting tour may not seem like very many, you’d be surprised at how long you’ll want to stay at each of them! Taking your time and enjoying the unique atmosphere at each boutique winery is what wine tasting is all about. So plug the directions into your GPS or see the map below and you’ll be on your way!
Tour Sonoma Coast From Home
As promised, we’ve found a way to bring a wine tasting to you...teleportation!
Obviously, and sadly, humans cannot teleport (yet), but we can ship a fantastic selection of wines from these boutique Sonoma Coast wineries directly to your home...which is the best next thing! We have a limited number of bottles and once we sell out, that’s it - we don’t get anymore, so get some while they’re still available.
Not only can you drink the wines, but you can read about the winery, winemaker, region, and more in our monthly newsletter that accompanies each shipment of wines. While it may not have the same romance as visiting the winery, you’ll still be enjoying highly-rated wines. From the comfort of your home, we might add.
