So Bacchus does exist! A heavenly combination of freshly-baked brownies with rich chocolate and red wine will have your mouth watering, and will definitely leave you wondering how they disappeared so quickly. But the best part? They’re warm, they’re indulgent and you can easily pair them with a glass of red wine, a fluffy blanket and a good movie.

But before embarking on this exciting recipe journey into a state of bliss, we suggest using a store-bought red wine to cook with and save your monthly wine club shipments to enjoy out of the glass.
Also, we wouldn’t recommend purchasing brownie mix and just adding wine. That would probably result in a runny mess that wouldn’t cook properly. But don’t fear, the recipe for these spiked brownies is the genius creation of Sarah Fennel (see Broma Bakery for more of her recipes!) and we’ve included the ingredients and cooking method for you to try at home.

Red Wine Brownies:
Recipe by Sarah Fennel
• 1/2 cup unsalted butter
• 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
• 1 1/2 cups light or medium brown sugar
• 2 eggs, room temperature
• 3/4 cup cocoa powder
• 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup red wine**
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line an 8"x8" baking dish with parchment paper or oil.
2. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add in chopped chocolate, stirring constantly until the chocolate is melted completely.
3.In a standing mixer with a whisk attachment, add in brown sugar. Slowly pour melted chocolate mixture into brown sugar with the mixer running on medium speed. Add in eggs, one at a time, with the mixer still on. Beat for 30 seconds, until the color of the batter lightens just a bit.
4. Turn the mixer to low and add in cocoa powder, flour, salt, vanilla extract, and wine, beating for an additional 30 seconds.
5. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for roughly 40 mins, or until a knife inserted in the center of the brownies comes out mostly clean.
**For the red wine going into the recipe we recommend a bold red wine such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, or robust Red Blend.
