Tucked in the picturesque Hecker Pass region at the southwestern edge of Santa Clara Valley, the Solis Winery and Vineyard are located on the historical Rancho de Solis, an 1830’s Mexican land grant that originally spread over 8,800 acres. Today, the winery is found in one of the oldest winegrowing regions in California’s Central Coast and just west of downtown Gilroy. David and Valerie Vanni originally purchased the property in 1980 from an Italian immigrant family and broke new ground by adding Chardonnay and Merlot to the existing vineyard of Zinfandel and Carignane. The Vannis continued to expand the small 5-acre vineyard site to include a number of other varietals, and found a comfortable size at 16 acres. A number of their releases are consistent medal winners and have found praise at many of the state’s international competitions. When the Vannis decided to retire in 2007, it was only natural that they’re sons, Michael and Vic Vanni, would take over the business and keep the family tradition alive at the quaint Santa Clara Valley winery. Today, the Vanni brothers enjoy maintaining the great reputation their parents instilled in Solis Winery and their dedication preludes to a promising future ahead.
