Je suis chose qui dure (I am a thing that lasts). Although those are the words of the French Nobel winning philosopher Henri Bergson, they could just as easily be those of former dentist Steve Reynolds who has pursued his dream with a relentless and unwavering intensity. Reynolds’ interest in wine started when he was living in Germany as a young teenager. Wine was always part of his daily life as his father often took the whole family on wine tasting trips throughout Europe. Reynolds and his father would make homemade wines together, and being the only son, this was a special bond they shared. Back in California, Reynolds grew up to become a dentist, but still in the back of his mind something was tugging at him. When he met his wife Suzie, he would talk to her about his desire to be a winemaker and she encouraged him to throw caution to the wind and go for it. In 1994, Reynolds sold his dental practice and bought an old chicken farm in Napa Valley with 14 acres off the Silverado Trail. The site needed lots of love, but was full of potential. By 1999, the Reynolds produced their first vintage and they haven’t looked back since. Today, their Tuscan-style tasting room (one of Reynolds’ father’s favorite winegrowing regions) is surrounded by 10 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and the small family winery handcrafts eight distinctive (and highly rated) wines. A wonderful story of how one man’s dream became a reality!
