Farming roots, a passion for wine, and an appreciation for the bounty and lifestyle of Paso Robles, led Dick and Pam Niner to invest in the wine business of Paso Robles. While on a business venture on California's Central Coast in 1996, Dick came to realize the potential of this region as a perfect environment for growing premium grapes and making fine wines. When the property he calls Bootjack Ranch became available in 2001, Dick jumped at the chance to buy it, and Niner Wine Estates was born. Two years later, the charming Heart Hill property came into the venture, which gets its name from a natural oak-tree filled depression on the hillside in the perfect shape of a heart. Together they represent over 360 acres, of which 125 are currently planted. In 2004, winemaker Amanda Cramer joined the Niner team, with her top-notch education and international winemaking experiences providing a brilliant addition to the growing winery. The close-knit group that comprises Niner Wine Estates is now responsible for producing exceptional fruit and making world-class wines, while they eagerly anticipate the grand opening of their elegant stone barn tasting room and state-of-the-art gravity flow winery planned for later this fall.
