Longfellow Wine Company is owned and operated by two childhood friends, Mark Smith and Craig Whitney. A spring break trip to California during graduate school sparked the two’s interest in wine and the Napa Valley. Shortly after graduation the pair decided to follow their dream and start a winery to produce ultra-premium wines in Napa Valley. In 2000, the winery was founded and named Longfellow to honor their hometown neighborhood in Maryland were they first met. To Steve and Mark, the initial release of Longfellow 2001 Cabernet represents their long-term friendship and what’s to come. Longtime Napa Valley resident and winemaker Rolando Herrera added his touch to the Longfellow 2002 release. Rolando started his career at Stag's Leap Wine Cellars as their cellar master, where he learned the basics of the wine industry and winemaking. He moved on to become the associate winemaker at Chateau Potelle. From there, Rolando refined his personal style of winemaking talents at Vine Cliff Winery from 1998 until 2001. Most recently, Rolando has his own label, Mi Sueno Winery, and serves as consulting winemaker for a few who share his vision of producing quality Napa Valley wines. Due to the extremely small production, Longfellow’s distribution is very limited.
