La Fenêtre Wines - Santa Maria Valley

Platinum Plus! selection - 92 Points, Wine Enthusiast magazine

Founded in 2005 by Joshua Klapper, La Fenêtre is a rising star winery on California’s Central Coast that offers a lineup of expressive old-world style wines with a modern, sensible twist. Joshua looks to the classic, old world wine regions of Burgundy, Bordeaux, and the Rhone for inspiration, while also honoring the terrior of his Central Coast vineyards from which his fruit is sourced.

La Fenêtre, French for The Window, is just that – a window into Joshua’s soul, and an expression of his art. Joshua’s passion for wine and his insatiable demand for quality are unmistakable as his wines continue to earn the respect and admiration of many of the top wine critics.

Growing up in Manhattan, Joshua Klapper immersed himself in culinary culture and the elite restaurant world at an early age. At nineteen, Joshua was one of the youngest servers to work at the acclaimed restaurant Café Boulud, where he mastered blind wine tasting and the art of food and wine pairing. He was exposed to some of the most admired winemakers and vintages in the world, and it instilled in him an undeniable love of wine. Joshua went on to assist in the opening of Los Angeles’ Sona restaurant in 2002 and became the Wine Director just six months later. His wine list at Sona landed him a prestigious Grand Award from Wine Spectator in 2006.

In 2005, Joshua became fixated with the idea of making his own wines and turned to the strong relationships he had forged over the years with California winemakers. He started sourcing Pinot Noir, Syrah and Chardonnay from some of the Central Coast’s most respected vineyards and La Fenêtre Wines was on its way. Joshua also picked up work at the Qupé and Au Bon Climat wineries where he mastered the laborious work of picking and crushing as well as the intricacies of blending and creating his own signature style. At La Fenêtre, Joshua manages every aspect of the winemaking process and ensures his style comes through in each and every one of his wines. Today, La Fenêtre Wines are among the most coveted on the Central Coast.
