Kokomo Winery

Nestled in the hills of beautiful Dry Creek Valley.

The Kokomo property has a rich history in Sonoma County dating back to the mid 1800’s when Zinfandel and a variety of fruits were first planted on the site (the Zinfandel is now over 150 years old). Started in 2004, the Kokomo Winery focuses on making small production, single-vineyard wines from Dry Creek Valley and the Russian River Valley. Owner/winemaker Erik Miller and his best friend/assistant winemaker Josh Bartels share a terrior-driven philosophy and strive to make Kokomo wines as individual and unique as the vineyards they were born from. Originally from Kokomo, Indiana, Erik had always dreamed of moving west and after graduating from Purdue University in 1999, he set his sights on Sonoma County. After working a harvest at nearby Belvedere Winery, Erik immediately fell in love with the wine industry and knew this was the path for him. It was the manual labor, the time spent in the vineyard, the work in the cellar, the creativity, the chemistry, and everything in between that drew Erik to discover his true passion. He enrolled at U.C. Davis to study enology and learn from the best in the field. When he wasn’t attending class, Erik was working as a cellar worker for Amphora Winery under Rick Hutchinson.

In 2004, Erik founded his own winery, Kokomo Winery, and named it after his hometown in Indiana. He called upon his best friend from Purdue, Josh Bartels, to come out and become Kokomo’s assistant winemaker. Erik also partnered with legendary grower Randy Peters, who has nearly forty years of wine grape growing experience under his belt. The three have formed quite the successful partnership, as Kokomo Winery has now joined the elite boutique wineries of Sonoma County, gaining more 90+ ratings and Gold Medals with each anticipated release. Not bad for someone who just 11 years ago participated in his first harvest! We invite you to enjoy Kokomo’s latest achievement, as they are truly a producer to watch. Cheers!
