Deering Winery - Sonoma Valley

Platinum Plus! selection

With a family farming history dating back to the mid-1800’s, it’s easy to see why Todd and Blair Maus decided to get into the vineyard and winery business. Blair is a descendant of the Deering McCormick family, early developers of farming technologies and founders of the Deering Harvestor Company. When the business merged with McCormick Reaper and others in 1902, it formed International Harvester – the largest farm equipment manufacturer in the world. Todd’s family, on the other hand, got their start in Austria and then migrated to Colorado in the mid 1800’s. With the tragedy of the Dust Bowl, dirt farming and ranching was unfortunately impossible, and Todd’s family instead began harvesting ice and sold it to the railroads and stockyards.

Today, Todd and Blair Maus honor their families’ farming heritage and history and have a successful boutique family winery and vineyard to show for it. Deering Winery and Maus Vineyards were founded in 2004 in Sonoma Valley when Todd and Blair purchased 16 acres of Old Vine Zinfandel. Todd and Blair each grew up with a love for drinking wine, and that passion was heightened when they moved
to the Bay Area. While working in San Francisco during the day, Todd took courses on winemaking and grape growing in Napa at night. It wasn’t long before they purchased the vineyard property and began a farming adventure of their own.

Maus Vineyards, as it’s now known, was part of the historic Beltane Ranch, located in the Mayacamas region of Sonoma County. Its rocky slopes, cool maritime influence, and high elevation have proven to be an ideal mix for growing many different varietals. Todd and Blair have since added additional acreage of Petite Sirah, Grenache, Mourvedre, and Charbono, and look forward to experimenting with more varietals in the future.

At Deering Winery, farming heritage and family history play an important role. Todd and Blair Maus are proud of their award-winning wines and look forward to sharing this outstanding wine club selection with you. Cheers!
